Protect the FBI™ is asking our Congressmen, Congresswomen, and Senators to take a pledge inspired by the motto of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, "Fidelity. Bravery. Integrity."
Protect the FBI's pledge:
I recognize that my fidelity is to the U.S. Constitution and the American people.
I recognize that my fidelity to the U.S. Constitution requires me to put the interests of the American people above my personal interests and my political party's interests.
I will respect my congressional colleagues, regardless of their party affiliation, because each seeks to represent the best interests of his or her constituents, as I seek to represent the best interests of mine, and that together we seek what is best for the country.
I will have the courage to collaborate across the political aisle and find common ground.
I will meet twice a year with a colleague from across the political aisle who has substantially different political, economic and social views than I do. During this meeting, I will raise consequential questions of public interest pertaining to the FBI and the U.S. Intelligence Community.
I will invite a retired FBI professional from my district to this meeting so that he or she can inform us on the inner workings of the FBI as well as on the FBI's many roles and responsibilities.
I pledge to oversee the FBI in a rigorous, meaningful, bipartisan manner.
I will not participate in the creation of an assessment or report of the FBI unless that assessment or report is fact-based, comprehensive, and written in a bipartisan manner that, when honest differences of opinion about the meaning and relevance of the facts exist, reflects both majority and minority points of view.
When honest differences of opinion exist, I will seek the opinion of a non-partisan intelligence expert and discuss this opinion with my colleagues.
Regardless of my final position, I will ensure that all points of view are weighed, that all mitigating and aggravating factors are considered, and that any final assessment or report reflects this.
